Sharing Good Practices to Protect Women's ESC Rights through the UPR
French interpretation will be available during the event.
The new report released by UN Women on 25th November 2021, "Measuring the shadow pandemic: Violence against women during COVID-19" highlights the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women's conditions at home and in public spaces. The report shows that women's feelings of safety have been eroded, leading to significant negative impacts on their mental and emotional well-being.
Socioeconomic stressors such as financial pressure, employment, food insecurity and family relations stood out as having a significant impact not only on experiences of safety (or violence), but also on women's well-being overall. However, there is strong evidence that ending violence against women and girls is possible.
Although in many countries the lockdown measures have been reduced concerns regarding the medium-long term effects on economic, social and cultural rights, including the rights to health, safe drinking water and sanitation, food, work, social security, education, an healthy environment and an adequate standard of living, for women are increasingly visible.
The online event will offer state representatives and civil society actors, including NGOs and NHRIs, a space to share good practices on how to protect and promote Women’s ESC rights in these pandemic times.
