• Human Rights Council discusses integration of gender perspective, with focus on the UPR

    As an annually recurring part of its agenda, the Human Rights Council held on Monday 28 September a discussion on the integration of gender perspective in the Council's work, with a specific focus on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The panel of speakers consisted of representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Working Group on Enforced Disappearances and national human rights organisations.

  • HRC holds general debate on UPR

    On the 25th of September, the Human Rights Council (HRC) held a general debate on the UPR under item 6 of its 12th session where speakers stated their belief in the relevance of the UPR as well as their support.


  • The Role of Parliaments at the UPR: a side event

    The Friedrich-Elbert Stiftung and the Inter-Parliamentary Union presented on September 17th a side event on "The Role of Parliaments at the UPR" with a panel consisting of MP Herta Däubler-Gmelin (Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, former Federal Minister of Justice, Germany), MP Mélégué Traoré (Deputy Chair of the Inter-Parliament Committee of the WAEMU, Former Speaker of the National Assembly, Burkina Faso), and Camilla Asano (CONECTAS, Brazil).

  • New proposal for registration on UPR speakers list

    The Secretariat of the Human Rights Council (the Secretariat) circulated on 26 August a non-paper containing proposals to improve modalities on the registration to the list of speakers at the UPR Working Group and Human Rights Council (HRC) sessions under item 6.
