geneva platform

The Geneva Human Rights Platform and UPR Info organise a training under the theme “The Universal Periodic Review and the UN Human Right System: raising the bar on accountability”.

The training will take place from 14 to 18 November 2022, online or in Geneva. The deadline to apply is on 30th of October.

This training course will be the occasion to share good practices on how to contribute in the implementation of UPR recommendations at national level with examples and hands-on exercises. Aimed specifically at NGOs, UN agencies, members of NHRIs and representatives of governments and academia, this training will be led by Miloon Kothari and will feature speakers from OHCHR, UN agencies, ambassadors from permanent missions in Geneva and Geneva-based NGOs. The full programme can be found here.

The objectives of the training course are:

  • To inform participants about the genesis and evolution of the UPR, within the context of the UN human rights system;
  • To increase knowledge about the advocacy strategies employed by national actors to identify issues to be raised at the UPR and to ensure implementation;
  • To inform about the distinct but also the collaborative role of various national level actors: national governments, NHRIs, civil society, UN agencies, academic bodies, national parliaments, diplomats and the media;
  • To use tools (matrices) developed by various actors at the national level to monitor progress with the UPR recommendations;
  • To identify the link between the UPR and the SDGs at the international and national levels;
  • To draft impactful recommendations for the UPR.

A certificate of participation will be given to participants who successfully complete the training course.

You can apply to the course with this form. If you participate in Geneva, the training fee is CHF 1530 (including course materials, five lunches and refreshments during coffee breaks). For participants taking the online courses, the fee is 1250 CHF. Doctoral and Master students receive a 30% discount.
