The Role of Civil Society Organisations (CSO)

UPR Jordan Team

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a state-driven mechanism. However, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have many opportunities to influence the UPR process by:

  1. Participating in the national consultations held by the State under Review (SuR);

  2. Sending information on the human rights situation in the country;

  3. Conducting advocacy;

  4. Taking the floor at the HRC during the adoption of the report;

  5. Monitoring the implementation of UPR recommendations by the State under Review;

  6. Raising awareness of State human rights commitments among the public.
