. 15th HRC session - 23 September 2010

“During the adoption of the outcome of the review in Cyprus by the Human Righs Council on 17 March 2010, Cyprus had announced, following the recommendations of various countries that it would submit within 3 months the instruments of ratification for the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflicts. We are pleased today to announce that the Republic of Cyprus has ratified the Optional Protocol in July 2010. We are also at this stage in the process of finalising the internal parliamentary procedure for the approval of the respective ratification bills for the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights as well as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and we are in the debate to meet our target date for the submission of the instruments of ratification. Additionally the Government has already started the preparation of all reports due to human rights mechanisms in order to submit them to the respective treaty bodies within the next 18 months.”
