. 12th HRC session - 25 Semptember 2009

“Allow me to briefly touch upon some of the progress made by the Republic of Korea in implementing the recommendations it received at its UPR last year.

In August 2008, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade co-hosted a discussion meeting on the follow-up to the UPR with the National Human Rights Commission. Relevant ministries and NGOs participated in the meeting and discussed ways to improve Korea’s human rights record in the run-up to the next UPR session for the Republic of Korea.

The Republic of Korea ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 11 December 2008 with a reservation to article 25(e). A revision of the domestic law that provides grounds for a withdrawal of the reservation is being considered in the National Assembly.

The implementation of UPR’s recommendations is being monitored on a regular basis at the National Human Rights Policy Council, along with its follow-up of the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (NAP).”
