. 11th HRC session - 12 June 2009

“Three months after the adoption of the UPR report, the UAE trough the Ministry of Work has taken many steps to improve the conditions of migrant workers. In particular the Ministry of Labour has taken with the competent authorities of India and the Philippines a resolution to start a model law for contractual work. We shall also document the best practices in this field. The law aims at achieving more transparency for the arrival of new migrants to the UAE and during their residency. On the other hand and because we are keen to disseminate a culture of human rights, the regional work of the ILO has trained a large number of researchers and competent personnel of relevant authorities and ministries. We also worked with the OHCHR with regards to human rights criteria.”

. 13th HRC session - 19 March 2010

“Today, one year after the adoption of our UPR report we would like to share the measures that we have taken. First of all, we have ratified the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Optional Protocol. We also have cooperated with the UN mechanisms on estimation of periodic reports on CERD and CEDAW. The Special Rapporteur on racial discrimination and xenophobia came in October 2009 and the Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography also came from 10-12 October 2009. We have strengthen the capabilities of the human rights offices trough training of the staff and we have created a human rights unit which brings together experts on human rights. We have established centers for women and children who have been victims of violence. We have also established a center to combat trafficking in human beings. We have also set up a mother and child center and a center for social support in Abu Dhabi as well as a mother and child center and a body responsible for social development in Dubai.”
